Last few days! Come visit Birmingham’s home of social change

Dear Transitioners,

For nearly a year, I’ve been volunteering with a team of super-motivated social changemakers (mostly from the TEDxBrum team) to launch Impact Hub Birmingham, a coworking community specifically for people trying to make Birmingham a better place.

I’m investing time in this because I truly believe it has the potential to supercharge the grassroots sustainability initiatives in our city. I’ve seen in London and elsewhere that the simple act of working, eating, debating and socialising together builds the networks of trust and communication that are essential for working together. That’s why today, I wrote a blog about why I think Birmingham’s green community needs a Hub. It explains how the Impact Hub will build on and support the amazing work Kings Heath Transition does in building strong relationships between the green pioneers in our city.

We’ve signed a lease on a space in The Walker Building, in the heart of Digbeth. It’s a beautiful space, but it’s just an empty shell – which is where you come in. We’ve launched a crowdfunding campaign to buy locally-made furniture, LED lighting, printers, wifi and the other essential. Now it’s the final few days of the campaign. The response so far has been phenomenal and 260 supporters have pushed us well past the half-way mark, but we still need to raise nearly £20,000.

If you’d like to come over to the Hub and have a chat, our doors are open all this week, just book a slot. The Hub team will be here to answer any questions you might have, and work out how you’d benefit from becoming a member or hosting events here. We’re happy to discuss bespoke packages, just let us know what you’d find valuable.

So if you’ve been thinking about grabbing a reduced-rate founder membership, or just pledging support and getting an exclusive photography class, t-shirt or tea-towel, don’t miss out! We’ve only got until this Saturday (10th Jan) to make Impact Hub a reality.

Thanks for your support, I really appreciate it 🙂

PS: The way Kickstarter works is that if we don’t reach £50,000, we won’t get a penny! So please spread the word – I think together we’ll do it.
