I’m pleased to announce an exciting new social enterprise that I’m starting up nearby: OnePlot urban farming.
Unhealthy food is a massive problem in a society dominated by fast food outlets and supermarkets that transport ‘fresh’ goods from across the world. We believe that everyone should be able to eat nutritious, organic food that’s grown locally and sustainably. We pioneer growing techniques that make the best use of limited space in urban environments, using closed-loop design and renewable energy.
In a few weeks, we’ll start delivering training classes that give people the all the knowledge you need to grow, cook and preserve food – from seed to plate. We will also produce and sell healthy, high-quality ‘food parcels’ at affordable prices to our local community. We hope later to open the world’s first aquaponic restaurant, where diners eat among an abundance of green leaves and burbling fish tanks.
Maybe you’d also like to get involved as a volunteer? I have some good news: we’re now participating in the ClimateKIC programme that I mentioned a few weeks ago. So if you’re a professional and have any experience in the ‘low carbon’ or Transition projects, you could be eligible for up to €8000 to let you to work with us for a month and then travel to another EU country to do a one-month placement there. You’ll also receive free training and support. The catch is that you need to move fast: the application deadline is on Friday! Email me if you’d like more information, and please feel free to forward this email on.
PS: do you use Facebook? Do me a favour and post this photo (attached) on your wall, or the wall of a friend. There are still plenty of spare placements, but only a few days left to apply for them. Thanks 🙂
