As members of the Birmingham Aquaponics Facebook group will know, we’ve been building an aquaponics system in my back garden. It’s all built now, the plants are planted and I’ve just got the fish today! They seem to have survived the cycle home so we’re off to a good start 🙂
To celebrate this milestone and let everyone take a peek at this curious way of growing fish and vegetables together, I’m having an garden open / launch party on Monday from 5pm. I’m in Balsall Heath so ideal to pop in en-route if you’re attending the Sustainability Forum.
This will also be a bit of a ‘bon voyage’ party: I’ve been lucky to get a funded place on the excellent ClimateKIC Pioneers programme (think ERASMUS for climate change entrepreneurs!), so I’m off in the direction of Budapest to work for a month on a project connected with aquaponics and urban food growing. I’ll be meandering there by train via Frankfurt, Milan, Venice, Bologna, Dubrovnik, Plivnice, Zagreb and Pecs – so even the journey there will be a lot of fun!
If you’d like to come over on Monday, please email me and I’ll let you know my address.
PS: the fabulous new community-run Stirchley Stores is opening tomorrow (Sunday) at 3pm! Flyer attached.
