Dear All

We will soon begin the Summer Planting of the planters on and around Kings Heath High Street.

There will be opportunities to help brighten up the High Street and side streets with a new selection of plants at three Sunday morning planting sessions led by local horticulturalist Ken Whittaker. This will also be part of the 2012 Kings Heath Floral Trail entry into In Bloom. The sessions are:

1. Sunday the 27th May at The Parade (opposite Argos) we will be replacing 5 ageing planters with planters of a new design. This will be quite hard work and we will require some extra spades and brooms, if you can bring some along.

2. Sunday 3rd and 10th of June will be of a more straightforward planting nature. It is possible that we will have some extra help this year from NatWest for some of the sessions but as yet we don’t know which ones. We will meet at a different location each session at around 9.00am on each Sunday.

3. Weekdays from Monday 21stMay Ken will be working to complete the planting and you are welcome to join him. Please get in touch to check times.

For all sessions, late-comers are welcome. Please bring gardening gloves, and trowels. Hi-viz Jackets will be provided.

Afterwards we will retire to a local café or pub for a complimentary drink. This is a great opportunity for local people to meet each other, get involved in the community and to contribute ideas about how to improve our neighbourhood.

If you would like to be involved, please get in touch by email or phone (preferably text) and give details of days and times which would suit you. Please also feel free to get in touch about any other way you might like to get involved or to share ideas.

This is what the In Bloom judges said about Kings Heath in 2011

‘One can not fail to be impressed, from the richness of its two parks, the floral displays throughout, the vibrant businesses and retail outlets, its welcoming and well-used churches, and at its hub the incredible and awe inspiring community which is Kings Heath.’

Lets keep up the good work!
